Svenska Maskiner och Motorer [Swedish Machines and Motors] was founded in 1948 by Georg Åkerberg at an age of 32. First establishment was at Styckjunkargatan in the heart of Stockholm city.

NORDISK MASKIN- OCH MOTORINDUSTRI AB

The year after the company name was changed to Nordisk Maskin- och Motorindustri [Nordic Machine and Motor Industry]. It moved to Grevgatan 21 and deliverys were made by pedal bike. After a few years, in 1952, the company moved to Drottninggatan 81B in Stockholm city. The new facilities included both an exhibition room and over desk sales. The first warehouse opened at Kammakargatan – a busy, narrow street in central Stockholm, which was not optimal.

Proud and with good confidence to enter the hometown of a well-known Swedish premium brand. With a portfolio including also special products like miniature bearings and cam followers, which were not it this competitor’s portfolio, we were taken seriously – and still are.

CHANGE TO NOMO KULLAGER AB

In 1969 Nordisk Maskin- och Motorindustri changed the name to Nomo Kullager AB, using the initial letters NOMO together with Kullager [Ball bearings] added to emphasize the core business. A range of 50,000 different bearings in stock from some 40 suppliers.

SALES OFFICE MALMÖ
Malmö [SWE] established 1977
Nomo Kullager opens a sales facility with office in Malmö city. Still administrated manually, but in 1983 all offices were computerized. The business was later moved outside central Malmö to Fosie Industrial area. Recent address in Fosie at Trehögsgatan 2 is still the location since 1991.

NOMO KULLAGER AB
Täby [SWE]
Move to Täby 1983. The building stood ready February 1st. Head office and other departments got functional facilities and transports were made much more effective in the brand new building. Over the years the warehouse has been expanded with high-level stocking capacity and an automatised stock-keeping-machine. Still over desk B2B sales in Täby, with direct access to over 30,000 items.

AXEL JOHNSON INTERNATIONAL

In 2000 Nomo was sold to Axel Johnson International (AxInter), a global industrial group that acquires and develops companies in strategically selected niche markets, primarily technical components and industrial process solutions. Still today Nomo is run like a family company and is one of the absolute most successful companies in the AxInter group.

NOMO TRANSMISSIONER A/S
Smørum [DEN] established 1890
Nomo took the first step outside Sweden by the asset acquisition of the bearing & transmission department of PMC Technology in Denmark. The company changed name the same year to Nomo Transmissioner. With the acquisition came several skilled and experienced employees that quickly adapted the Nomo model to the Danish business.

PORIN LAAKERI OY
Pori [FIN] established 1979
The acquisition of Porin Laakeri Oy was the first step into the Finnish bearing market. The company was founded by a former Nomo employee, and therefore quickly adapted to our way of working. With the strength of Nomos portfolio the business quickly evolved in to more OEM business including to the pulp & paper and mining industries in Finland.

TAUNO TASANTO OY
Oulu [FIN] established 1987
The acquisition of Tasanto in the North-western town of Oulu was a natural next step for Nomo in Finland. The employees in the business were well acquainted with the main brands promoted by Nomo. The geographic location itself was crucial to grow our business towards the steel & mining industries of the north. The team in Oulu also added a lot of knowledge in the area of seals, as several of them are real experts.

VANTAA SALES OFFICE
Vantaa, Helsinki [FIN]
A few years into our expansion in Finland, the OEM part of the business needed additional support leading to the opening of an OEM sales office in Vantaa, outside Helsinki. Initially the office was manned by two experienced representatives with a solid track record from the Finnish bearing industry.

TRANSEKO AB
Avesta and Borlänge [SWE] established 1992
A major customer contract in the steel industry led to the transfer of the branch offices in Borlänge and Avesta from sister company Sverull to Nomo. Having known each other since the 90´s the transfer was very smooth. Today the branch offices in Avesta and Borlänge play a critical role in our support to the steel, mining, pulp & paper, sawmill and bioenergy industries in central Sweden.

Turku [FIN] established 1988
The acquisition in Turku added long needed additional capacity in distribution and warehousing for our Finnish business. From Turku we could also reach several important industries including ship building, industrial automation, and food & beverage industries highly important in southwestern Finland.

Customer requirements from the mining industry led to the establishment of a sales office and local service warehouse in the mining district of northern Sweden. Our skilled team supports customers excavating and refining iron, copper, silver, gold, zinc and several other minerals highly sought after in the era of electrification.

Nordic OEM customers were looking for reliable supply chain for Bearings for their Asian manufacturing operations. This led to Nomo establishing a local sales company and logistics center in China. We serve Nordic manufacturers locally across China and south east Asia in many industries, including industrial automation, off highway vehicles, industrial gear drives, marine deck machinery and food & beverage packaging.

ROTERA KULLAGER AB
Täby [SWE] established 1997
The team from former Nomo sub-distributor Rotera joined Nomo adding a lot of valuable experience and knowledge in seals and power transmissions. With the addition of Rotera, Nomo gained a significant market share in the greater Stockholm MRO market.

ROTEK AS
Ålesund [NOR] established 1988
The acquisition of Rotek in Ålesund, acted as a bridge head into the Norwegian market. The company is located strategically on the coast, and gave access to several strategic industries including marine deck machinery and fish & seafood processing. Rotek also developed the private label, RTK, that is now being utilized across the group.

JOKILAAKERI OY

With the acquisition of JokiLaakeri, a well-reputed multibrand bearing distributor with strong technical knowledge, Finland became Nomos biggest market. The company was founded in 1991 and had an annual turnover of approxima¬tely 18 MEUR. JokiLaakeri had a leading market position in Tampere, the key industrial region in Finland, with branches in Lahti and Oulu. The flag ship warehouse in Tampere is the perfect hub to supply the large parts of Finland with products.

Three years after entering the Norwegian market, Nomo took the next step and acquired ABRA Kulelagersenteret AS in the strategic area Trondheim. ABRA Kulelagersenteret is a highly skilled technical solution provider of premium bearing brands serving mainly the Norwegian MRO market.

Gävle [SWE] established 1975
Lodén's Industrimontage is a modern and well-established family business founded in 1975, focusing on industrial maintenance and related services. After the acquisition the company name changes to Nomo Industriservice AB. Nomo is by this acquisition launching a new concept of industrial services to the portfolio. The company is based in Gävle and the offering is primarily focused on heavy duty gear drives, process pumps along with bearings, seals, and other related power transmission products.

The acquisition of Top-Osa, leading manufacturer of hydraulic and pneumatic seals in Finland, complements Nomo offering greatly. Top-Osa is known for excellent service, high quality products, fast delivery and strong industrial knowledge. With high capacity and flexible production has kept both, OEM and MRO customers, satisfied. Top Sealing Partner is the new name to be implemented.
