Employee interview
Maria Hedberg
Maria Hedberg works in finance and supplier accounts at Nomo’s head office in Stockholm. Stig-Harley Pedersen, our previous guest in this series, asks: Where would you like to travel to? In winter, I’d like to travel somewhere warm, such as Cape Verde. In the autumn, I’d like to travel to Belfast to see my niece who will be studying there. You have worked at Nomo for 34 years, starting in 1989, what do you remember from that year? We had typewriters, fax and telex. To send payments to the bank and post office giros back then, we used a floppy disk and we were also allowed to smoke indoors then. Why did you start working at Nomo? I studied economics at secondary school and my accounting teacher who knew Larsa (Lars Åkerberg, former CEO of Nomo) recommended me. After secondary school, I had an interview and even got to meet Georg Åkerberg who founded Nomo in 1948. Can you describe your journey through the company? I have really enjoyed it and been able to experience a lot of things over the years. I started as a finance assistant in accounts payable, then there was a post vacant in supplier accounts. When we started Nomo Transmissioner in Smörum, Denmark, I helped to establish the business’s financial functions. I have been involved in introducing several different finance programs, including Medius for managing invoicing. I have also led training in our financial procedures for new companies in the group and worked in reporting. What has given you the most professional development? It is always a challenge bringing a new company into the business, but it is also engaging to come up with a solution that means our work in the two countries is as similar as possible. For me, I developed a lot before Rotera in Täby merged into Nomo, when I took care of all the finances apart from salaries. What do you do in your spare time? I look after my family and we spend a lot of time at our summer house in the archipelago. I read and listen to audiobooks too. The best song in the world ever? I love listening to 80s music, Bryan Adams’ Summer of ‘69 is a favourite. What is your biggest success in life? My three children! Our next guest is Anita Mansikka; she is an accountant at Nomo in Finland, what question would you like to ask her? What is the best film you’ve seen?
