Helinä Ahonen

Helinä Ahonen is a purchaser at Nomo's office in Turku, Finland.

Rickard Kvist, our previous guest in this series, asks: Can you dance the Finnish tango?
I have been to Seinäjoen Tangomarkkinat once a long time ago. I had to watch some tangos first, they are so slow and dragging, but I like to think that I can.

Can you describe your journey through the company over the years?
I joined Nomo with the acquisition of TekniikkaCenter in 2011. Previously, I worked for over ten years at TekniikkaCenter and have been working in the same industry since 1996.

What is it like to work as a purchaser?
I have always appreciated and enjoyed my work. Because I have always worked on the purchasing side, I have gathered a lot of information and knowledge from different suppliers and built up good relationships.

What is your motivation?
To learn more and develop new skills.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I am left-handed, but am ambidextrous for many things.

Who is your role model?
My mum.

What do you do in your spare time?
In the winter, I swim in ice pools and in the summer I do a lot of sailing. In general, I enjoy many different outdoor and indoor sports, as well as knitting of course!

What is your favourite food?
Good food prepared by others.

If you can choose a destination, where do you travel?
For shorter holidays, I go to Lapland or to warm countries. I also like to see and discover European cities. For longer holidays I like to go to the sea.

What is your best environmental tip for sustainable development?
Eliminate most unnecessary consumption!

Our next guest will be Pontus Lönnberg; he is new in sales in Sweden, what question would you like to ask him?
What is definitely better at Nomo compared to your previous job?
